Zcash upgrade NU7 gains overwhelming support for faster blocks and halving schedule

Zcash’s next major network upgrade, NU7, received overwhelming support from holders in a governance vote involving nearly 2.4 million ZEC, or roughly two-thirds of eligible tokens. The results, weighted by economic stake rather than individual participation, reflected a clear preference for reducing block times to 25 seconds from their current 75 seconds—a move that would accelerate transaction confirmations. Additionally, 98.9% of voters upheld Zcash’s existing halving schedule, maintaining the network’s Bitcoin-style reward reductions at fixed intervals rather than adopting a gradual decline in new coin issuance.
