U.S. Private Sector Adds 16,250 Jobs Weekly Through Late August

ADP Research said U.S. private employers added an average of 16,250 jobs per week during the four weeks ending Aug. 29, according to its NER Pulse weekly update. The figure was up from 12,250 jobs in the prior week and marked the second consecutive week of hiring growth.

The four-week moving average had reached a low of 8,250 jobs in the week ending July 25 after peaking at 24,250 jobs in mid-June. Hiring then declined through late July before gradually accelerating into late August.

The NER Pulse is a weekly update of the monthly ADP National Employment Report, produced with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab. The data are seasonally adjusted, preliminary and subject to revision as additional information becomes available. The estimates carry a two-week lag to allow for more complete reporting and draw from ADP payroll-processing information covering more than 1.1 million clients.

The report was published on Sept. 15, 2026, at 8:20 a.m. NER Pulse is normally released weekly on Tuesdays at 8:15 a.m. ET, except in weeks when the monthly National Employment Report is published. The next update is scheduled for Sept. 22.
