Solana raises mainnet transaction limit to 4,096 bytes in upgrade

Solana’s mainnet transaction size limit was increased to 4,096 bytes, nearly tripling the previous cap of 1,232 bytes, to accommodate more sophisticated transactions. The upgrade, activated on Tuesday at the start of epoch 1,035, introduces the v1 transaction format while preserving full backward compatibility with existing transaction formats. Existing applications and wallet providers continue to function as-is, but developers must migrate to v1 transactions to fully leverage the expanded capacity. The change aims to support advanced use cases, including zero-knowledge proofs and multi-signature transactions, which were previously constrained by the smaller limit. Developers can now bundle more complex operations into a single transaction, broadening the network’s utility for applications requiring higher computational workloads on-chain.
