JinkoSolar to rename to Jinko Holdings amid strategic expansion

JinkoSolar Holding Co., Ltd. (NYSE: JKS) has proposed a name change to Jinko Holdings Limited, marking a strategic shift toward diversifying its operations beyond its core solar business. The move will require shareholder approval at an annual general meeting scheduled for October 21, 2026, alongside regulatory approvals. The company will continue trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the existing ticker symbol, JKS, pending finalization of the transition process.

Under the new structure, Jinko Holdings will maintain controlling ownership in its majority subsidiary, Jinko Solar Co., Ltd. (SSE: 688223), while expanding into minority investments across sectors including artificial intelligence, renewable energy, advanced materials, commercial space, and frontier technologies. The company has already identified several portfolio companies, including Moonshot AI, which raised approximately $2.0 billion in May 2026 at a post-money valuation of around $20 billion. Other notable investments include StepFun, which secured over RMB5.0 billion in a Series B+ financing round in January 2026, and Hangzhou Gold Electronic Equipment Co., Ltd., whose ChiNext Market listing in the second quarter of 2026 generated consolidated fair-value gains of over RMB400 million for JinkoSolar in the first half of 2026.

The company also disclosed gains from the disposal of its equity interest in LAPLACE Renewable Energy Technology Co., Ltd., where it realized over RMB300 million in cash proceeds, with cumulative realized gains exceeding RMB250 million (net of costs and fees) by the first half of 2026. These investments reflect JinkoSolar’s broader ambition to position itself as a diversified industrial holding company, leveraging its existing solar expertise to support growth in high-growth sectors.

The proposed name change underscores the company’s intent to signal its evolving business strategy, which now includes significant exposure to technology-driven industries beyond its core solar manufacturing operations.
