Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) reported a 2.1% decrease in passenger traffic for August, with total traffic reaching 5.9 million passengers, down from the previous year. The company's regional performance showed mixed results: Colombia saw a 4.0% growth, driven by a 5.8% increase in domestic traffic and a 1.2% decrease in international traffic. Mexico experienced a 4.0% decline, with domestic traffic growing 4.1% and international traffic falling 13.6%. Puerto Rico saw a 5.1% decline, with both domestic and international traffic decreasing by 4.9% and 5.9% respectively.
Year-to-date figures through August show a total passenger traffic of 48.5 million, down 0.8% from the same period in 2025. Domestic traffic increased 1.2% to 30.6 million passengers, while international traffic decreased 4.0% to 17.9 million passengers.
Cancun International Airport, ASUR's largest facility, processed 2.1 million passengers in August, a 9.3% decrease from the prior year. Year-to-date traffic at Cancun reached 19.3 million passengers, down 5.7%. San Juan Airport in Puerto Rico handled 1.1 million passengers in August, a 5.1% decrease year-on-year.
The August figures do not include passenger traffic from airports incorporated on September 1, 2026, when ASUR completed its acquisition of Motiva Airports, adding 17 airports in Brazil and one each in Costa Rica, Curaçao, and Ecuador. Traffic from these newly added airports will be included starting with the September 2026 report.
