Shares of AMS Osram surged 22.9% to 21.12 Swiss francs on Monday, reaching their highest level since early June — a 3.5-month high — driven by news of a product breakthrough for AI data-centre applications.
The Premstätten, Austria-based company reported a milestone in thin-film VCSEL (Vertical-cavity Surface Emitting Laser) technology designed for data centres supporting artificial intelligence workloads. The development hinges on a plug-based multicore fibre solution and an expanding partner ecosystem, according to the firm's Monday morning media release.
AMS Osram said the thin-film VCSEL solution would be unveiled at the European Conference on Optical Communications 2026 in Malaga.
The sharp rally confirmed the continued volatile character of the stock. In May, shares jumped nearly 30% in a single trading day following the first-quarter 2026 report. In early June they fell more than 23% over several sessions, and in mid-July they closed around 10% lower on another trading day.
Traders said both follow-through buying and profit-taking were possible on Tuesday, with analyst commentary likely to provide additional direction. Few comments appeared on Monday because management did not release the product news until 10:00, after the day's pre-market expert analyses had already been filed.
According to AWP-Analyser, the average 12-month price target for AMS Osram stands at 17.28 Swiss francs — roughly 18.2% below Monday's closing price. Among the analysts tracked, three rate the shares a "Buy," four a "Hold," and three a "Sell."
