Safestore's shares fell 4.9% to 582.35 pounds on Wednesday, extending declines that have seen the stock drop roughly 25% since March, as Deutsche Bank downgraded European self-storage operators including Safestore from "buy" to "hold".
Safestore's stock has underperformed the FTSE All Share Index in recent months, trading significantly below its 200-day moving average and far from its 52-week high of 837 pence. Shurgard, another major player in the European self-storage market, has also declined by about 16% since March, underscoring broader sector weakness.
Deutsche Bank's move follows a period of rising interest rates that have compressed property valuations and increased financing costs for UK REITs, adding to the challenges faced by operators relying on transaction-linked revenue streams.
