Palazzo Venezia, a 5‑star boutique hotel on the shores of Lake Como, joined the Leading Hotels of the World network following its recent acquisition by Villa d’Este La Collezione. The property occupies a 19th‑century residence on Piazza Cavour in Como and is positioned as a smaller counterpart to the chain’s flagship Villa d’Este hotel in Cernobbio.
Villa d’Este La Collezione, which also operates Villa d’Este, Villa la Massa and Miralago Luxury Apartments, took over Palazzo Venezia a few months ago. The hotel retains its historic façade with pointed‑arch windows that evoke Venetian palaces, while interior renovations emphasize marble bathrooms and period details.
The hotel comprises 18 rooms, each equipped with a freestanding marble bathtub. Guests access fitness and spa facilities at the nearby Villa d’Este via a private boat shuttle that crosses the lake. The rooftop bar provides views of the lake, surrounding hills and the region’s yachts.
Palazzo Venezia’s on‑site restaurant, Altariva, is led by chef Alessandro Rinaldi. The menu includes a Parmigiano‑Reggiano‑infused amuse‑bouche, lobster and fish dishes, and a traditional Neapolitan babà dessert. The restaurant has been recognized for its bread, awarded as the best in Italy, and Rinaldi’s family‑run sourdough starter dates back four generations. While the restaurant has not yet received a Michelin star, its quality has been noted by reviewers.
The hotel, over 150 years old, emphasizes local tradition and service continuity. Director Barbara Gibellini is reported to know guests by name, and staff are described as personable. Palazzo Venezia aims to differentiate itself from newer luxury developments around Como by integrating historic character with modern amenities, catering to high‑net‑worth travelers who frequent the lake region.
