Musk Drops Antitrust Lawsuit Against Apple Over Chatbot Access

Elon Musk has dropped his antitrust lawsuit against Apple, court documents show, with allegations against the iPhone maker now considered resolved, though no details were given on how they were settled.

Musk had filed the suit roughly a year ago, accusing Apple of unfairly hindering competing chatbots including his Grok in order to give an advantage to OpenAI's ChatGPT. The case arose from Apple's 2024 cooperation with OpenAI, which allows iPhone users to redirect Siri queries the assistant cannot answer to ChatGPT.

Musk had argued that Apple holds a 65 percent share of the U.S. smartphone market and OpenAI commands 80 percent of the AI chatbot space, calling them monopolies. Among the relief sought were damages and an injunction blocking the Apple-OpenAI partnership.

Meanwhile, Musk's separate lawsuit against OpenAI remains active. The two have been locked in a long-running dispute, during which Musk accused OpenAI of improperly converting from its original non-profit structure into a for-profit entity. A California jury previously ruled against Musk in the OpenAI case.

The timing came shortly after Apple launched a new AI-enhanced version of Siri in the United States. While Apple developed parts of the update itself, Google's Gemini model also served as a basis for certain features.

Musk's own AI venture, xAI, recently absorbed into his space company SpaceX, had faced controversy earlier over antisemitic output from Grok, which the company attributed to a programming error.
