Micro-cap biotech ZSTK led U.S. stock gainers last week with a 203.6% surge to $5.08, pushing its market capitalization to $103 million. The move followed a series of speculative rallies in small-cap equities, with ZSTK’s gains reflecting heightened trading activity in low-float names.
Moderna advanced 110.5% to $140.57 after positive Phase 3 melanoma trial data in partnership with Merck, triggering a 145.93% single-day gain and analyst upgrades. The rally lifted Moderna’s market cap to $53.2 billion, underscoring the sector’s sensitivity to clinical progress.
Other top performers included CYPH, up 84.8% to $1.33, and Amylyx Pharmaceuticals, which gained 83.4% to $38.83 following a biotech bounce. VOGX, a recent IPO, rose 60% to $28.68 after raising $81.3 million at market debut. SCTX advanced 58.4% to $34.58 amid strong growth expectations despite negative earnings.
Energy micro-cap Blue Dolphin Energy rose 55.6% to $6.25, while PURR climbed 50.9% to $10.51 on speculative flows. Maravai LifeSciences gained 45.4% to $8.73 after an earnings beat, though management’s cautious outlook capped further gains. ACH rose 37.8% to $1.20 in small-cap trading.
The week’s gains were concentrated in biotech and speculative sectors, with broader indices showing muted gains. Analysts attributed the volatility to thin liquidity in micro-caps and sector-specific catalysts, particularly in drug development and IPO activity.
