Xcel Energy has placed an order for three additional Xos Hub mobile energy storage and charging systems, expanding its fleet electrification and customer service capabilities in Colorado.
The new units will be deployed at service centers in Arvada and Grand Junction, providing fast-charging infrastructure for Xcel Energy’s growing electric vehicle fleet. A third unit will support customers in the Denver area affected by grid construction projects, offering charging during planned outages.
The order follows Xcel Energy’s initial deployment of two Xos Hub units in 2024. Since then, the Colorado-based units have delivered approximately 33,000 kWh of charging capacity, supporting operational efficiency and cost management for the utility’s fleet operations.
Xos Hub systems are designed for rapid deployment, becoming operational within days compared to the six to eighteen months typically required for permanent DC charging infrastructure. The mobile units charge from the grid during off-peak hours, enabling cost savings of up to 40% relative to standard DC fast chargers in certain applications.
Xos expanded its Hub product lineup in January 2026 to include three capacity tiers, with the largest offering up to 630 kWh. The company also recently secured a follow-on order for twelve units from an autonomous fleet operator, underscoring growing demand for flexible charging solutions.
Robert Kenney, president of Xcel Energy Colorado, said the additional units will help maintain fleet mobility while providing customers with reliable charging options during grid improvement projects.
