Xcel Energy has placed an order for three additional Xos Hub mobile energy storage and charging systems from Xos, Inc., expanding its fleet-charging infrastructure in Colorado.
The utility will deploy two of the units at service centers in Arvada and Grand Junction to support fast charging for its fleet vehicles. The third unit will provide temporary charging for customers in the Denver area affected by grid construction projects where power disruptions are expected for several hours. The order follows Xcel Energy’s initial deployment of two Hub units in 2024.
Since its Colorado deployment, the Xos Hub system has delivered approximately 33,000 kWh of charging capacity, according to the utility. Xos has also recently secured a twelve-unit follow-on order from an autonomous fleet operator, reflecting growing demand for mobile charging solutions.
The mobile units can be operational within days, compared with the six to eighteen months typically required for permanent DC fast-charging infrastructure. Xcel Energy noted that charging from the grid during off-peak hours through these systems can reduce electricity costs by up to 40% compared with standard DC fast chargers in certain applications.
Xos expanded its Hub lineup in January 2026 to include three capacity tiers, with the largest offering up to 630 kWh. The systems are designed to support Class 8 trucks and Xos Stepvan vehicles, aligning with Xcel Energy’s electrification initiatives.
Robert Kenney, president of Xcel Energy Colorado, said the additional units will help maintain fleet operations while providing flexible charging options during grid improvement projects.
