Xanadu Quantum Technologies Limited unveiled a quantum computing roadmap targeting fault tolerance between 2028 and 2029, alongside plans to scale logical qubits to more than 1,000 by 2031.
The Toronto-based company, which operates a photonic quantum computing architecture at room temperature using silicon manufacturing processes, detailed a series of hardware and technical milestones. Construction of a dedicated "Qubit Factory" is scheduled for completion between 2026 and 2027, followed by the achievement of fault tolerance in 2028–2029. Xanadu also aims to establish a quantum data center by 2029–2030.
Key technical targets include reducing a critical loss indicator from 24.1x in 2026 to 1.0x by 2030, a prerequisite for quantum error correction. Logical error rates are projected to improve from approximately 10⁻³ to 10⁻⁸ in 2028 to 10⁻¹⁶ by 2030. The company’s photonic approach leverages existing semiconductor fabrication methods, enabling room-temperature operation without cryogenic cooling.
Xanadu’s open-source PennyLane platform continues to gain developer adoption, with 30.8% of surveyed developers using it over the past year. The platform records roughly 1.1 million package installs monthly and interfaces with 51 simulator and hardware devices.
As of June 30, 2026, Xanadu reported total available funding of approximately $686 million. This includes $312.8 million in cash and cash equivalents, $232.8 million remaining under an at-the-market equity facility, and $140.2 million in confirmed funding from the Government of Canada. The company operates a 158,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Toronto for testing, integration, and assembly operations.
