Viasat Inc. announced on Monday that its ViaSat-3 F3 satellite has entered commercial service, marking the second operational satellite in the company’s next-generation Ka-band constellation. The F3 satellite, deployed to cover the Asia-Pacific region, expands Viasat’s fleet bandwidth to more than double its current capacity, with a designed throughput exceeding one terabit per second.
The addition of F3 follows the 2024 commercial launch of ViaSat-3 F1, which serves the Americas. The company’s third satellite, ViaSat-3 F2, remains in the final stages of in-orbit testing and is expected to complete the constellation once operational. Viasat stated that the expanded fleet will enhance its ability to provide satellite communication services to consumers, businesses, governments, and military customers globally.
Mark Dankberg, Chairman and CEO of Viasat, said the F3 satellite’s advanced technology enables dynamic regional capacity allocation in high-demand mobility markets, supporting growth and improving blended average yield across the company’s portfolio. The satellite’s entry into service comes after Viasat completed its acquisition of Inmarsat in May 2023, integrating the latter’s satellite assets and expanding Viasat’s operational footprint to 24 countries. Viasat is headquartered in Carlsbad, California.
