Viasat Inc. announced on Monday that its ViaSat-3 F3 satellite has entered commercial service in the Asia-Pacific region, marking the second operational satellite in the company’s next-generation Ka-band constellation.
The F3 satellite, designed to deliver more than one terabit per second of throughput, more than doubles the bandwidth capacity of Viasat’s existing fleet. It joins the ViaSat-3 F1 satellite, which began service in 2024, while the ViaSat-3 F2 satellite remains in final in-orbit testing and is expected to enter service in the Americas to complete the three-satellite constellation.
Viasat acquired Inmarsat in May 2023, integrating its global satellite operations under a single fleet. The company operates from 24 countries, with the ViaSat-3 program designed to enhance regional capacity density, particularly in premium mobility markets. Viasat’s chairman and CEO, Mark Dankberg, stated that the F3’s advanced technology will drive growth, improve blended average yield, and deliver incremental cash economics across the portfolio.
