Unum Group said its board approved a new share buyback program allowing the purchase of up to $1 billion of the insurer's common stock, effective from September 1, 2026.
The authorization follows the expiration of the company’s current repurchase program, which runs through August 31, 2026. Management will determine the timing and volume of repurchases based on market conditions and other factors.
Repurchases may be conducted through open market transactions, privately negotiated deals, or accelerated share repurchase programs, provided they comply with Rule 10b5-1 under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. The board retains discretion to suspend, modify, or terminate the program at any time.
Unum provides workplace benefits and services under the Unum and Colonial Life brands, offering disability, life, accident, critical illness, dental, and vision insurance, along with leave management and behavioral health services. In 2025, the company reported $13.1 billion in revenue and paid $8.3 billion in benefits.
