UL Solutions Inc (NYSE: ULS) issued a public safety notice on Sept. 25, warning consumers about carbon monoxide detectors that bear unauthorized UL Certification Marks.
The alert, referenced as public notice 25PN-5456, targets Protech International carbon monoxide detectors, model PTH-24D, sold under the brand name LSENLTY on Amazon.com. The devices are manufactured by Protect International Group Co., Ltd. and are labeled with an input voltage rating of 100-220V at 50/60Hz with a replaceable plug.
According to the Northbrook, Illinois-based certification company, the detectors have not been evaluated by UL Solutions against applicable safety standards, and it is unknown whether they meet any recognized safety requirements.
UL Solutions said it recommends consumers remove the affected products from service immediately and replace them with properly UL Certified carbon monoxide detectors. The company provides testing, inspection and certification services for fire, smoke and gas detection technologies.
The warning underscores ongoing concerns about counterfeit or improperly certified safety equipment entering the marketplace through online retailers, where products may not undergo the third-party verification that certification marks are intended to signal.
