London stocks ended lower on Thursday, with the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.80% as weakness in fixed-line telecommunications, beverage and tobacco sectors outweighed gains elsewhere.
Decliners outnumbered advancers by 869 to 805, with 577 issues unchanged at the close. The broader market breadth reflected a cautious tone as investors digested mixed corporate and macro signals.
Among the top performers, Sage Group PLC surged 3.81% to 1,103.50, adding 40.50 points. London Stock Exchange Group PLC climbed 3.36% to 8,980.00, while RELX PLC rose 3.17% to 2,668.00. The gains came despite the index’s overall decline.
The worst performers included Entain PLC, which fell 3.66% to 511.00, extending its slide to 52-week lows. Vistry Group PLC declined 3.44% to 303.00, and Londonmetric Property Plc dropped 2.72% to 189.40.
Commodities showed mixed movement. Gold futures for December delivery edged up 0.15% to $4,660.25 per troy ounce. October crude oil futures rose 0.58% to $82.71 per barrel, while the November Brent contract increased 0.69% to $87.54 per barrel.
The British pound held steady against the dollar, trading at 1.36, while the euro’s exchange rate versus the pound remained flat at 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Index futures slipped 0.02% to 99.07.
