Former U.S. President Donald Trump issued a warning on Monday that the United States would consider military action against Oman if the Gulf state continued to align with Iran’s policies.
In remarks delivered during a campaign-style event, Trump stated that Oman’s perceived support for Tehran could provoke a response from Washington. He did not specify the nature of such action but emphasized that the U.S. would not tolerate policies that undermine American interests in the region.
Oman has long maintained a policy of neutrality in regional conflicts, including tensions between Iran and Gulf Arab states. The country has served as a mediator in past diplomatic efforts, including indirect talks between Iran and the U.S. during the Obama administration.
Trump’s comments come amid heightened scrutiny of Gulf states’ foreign policies, particularly regarding their relations with Iran. The former president has previously criticized Oman for its diplomatic engagement with Tehran, accusing the country of enabling Iranian influence in the region.
The warning adds to geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East, where U.S.-Iran tensions remain elevated despite temporary de-escalations. Regional analysts note that military threats against Oman could further destabilize the already fragile security landscape in the Gulf.
Oman’s foreign ministry has not immediately responded to requests for comment.
