Taiwan’s stock market closed lower on Monday, with the Taiwan Weighted index declining 1.00% as losses in the oil, gas and electricity sector and the plastics sector weighed on sentiment.
Advancing stocks trailed decliners by a wide margin, with 664 shares falling against 328 advancing and 128 unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
Among individual movers, Mospec Semiconductor Corp rose 9.97% to 53.50, while Lite-On Technology Corp gained 9.96% to 287.00, reaching all-time highs. HannsTouch Solution Inc also advanced 9.96% to 12.70.
On the downside, Lintes Technology Co Ltd fell 9.93% to 403.50, BizLink Holding Inc dropped 9.89% to 2,050.00 and Regal Holding Co Ltd declined 9.89% to 27.80.
Commodities showed mixed performance, with October crude oil futures down 1.69% to $85.59 per barrel and November Brent crude falling 1.49% to $91.29 per barrel. December gold futures, however, rose 0.35% to $4,697.09 per troy ounce.
The U.S. dollar edged 0.05% higher against the Taiwan dollar to 31.82, while the U.S. Dollar Index futures were up 0.04% at 98.77.
