Sunshine Biopharma Inc. said Health Canada has approved its generic enalapril oral tablets, expanding its Canadian portfolio to 61 drugs.
The approval covers dosage strengths of 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg, providing a cost-effective alternative to the brand-name ACE inhibitor Vasotec. Distribution will be handled by Sunshine’s wholly owned subsidiary Nora Pharma Inc., with shipments to Canadian pharmacies expected by the end of 2026.
Enalapril is widely prescribed for hypertension, heart failure, and left ventricular dysfunction, supporting cardiovascular treatment access. The company currently markets 60 generic prescription drugs in Canada and plans to introduce roughly 12 additional products there through 2026.
The global anti-hypertensive drug market was valued at $25.94 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $37.24 billion by 2034, according to BioSpace. Canada’s pharmaceutical market accounts for about 2.1% of the global total, based on 2028 data from IQVIA Pharmafocus.
Sunshine Biopharma also maintains a drug development pipeline targeting liver cancer via its K1.1 mRNA program and SARS coronavirus infections through a PLpro protease inhibitor program.
