Nomad Power Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ: NMAD) shares advanced 2.6% on Wednesday after the company secured UL 9540 certification for its 1 MW/2 MWh Traveler battery energy storage system.
The certified transportable system has been delivered to the Missanabie Cree First Nation in Northern Ontario, where it will support emergency preparedness and provide rapidly deployable power for critical infrastructure, including emergency shelters, medical services and communications. The system can respond to changes in electrical load in approximately 8 milliseconds, according to the company.
The certification follows a growing focus on off-grid communities in Canada that rely on diesel as their primary power source. Industry estimates suggest roughly 250 such communities collectively consume between 90 million and 120 million liters of diesel annually, highlighting the potential for battery storage solutions to reduce dependency on fossil fuels in remote areas.
