Schindler Holding AG said on Wednesday it secured a contract to modernize the elevator systems at General Motors’ landmark headquarters in New York City.
The Swiss-based industrial group did not disclose the financial terms or timeline for the project, which will cover the iconic GM building at 304 West 57th Street in Manhattan. The contract follows a competitive bidding process, according to a company statement.
The agreement underscores Schindler’s role in high-profile commercial real estate upgrades, particularly in densely populated urban centers. The GM building, completed in 1968, is a notable example of mid-century modern architecture and houses corporate offices as well as residential units.
Schindler, which operates in more than 100 countries, has been expanding its presence in North America through both organic growth and acquisitions. The company’s elevator and escalator systems are installed in major landmarks including New York’s One World Trade Center and the Empire State Building.
A Schindler spokesperson declined to comment on whether the contract includes additional services such as maintenance or smart-building technology integration beyond the core elevator modernization.
The news comes as Schindler reported second-quarter results last month, posting a 6% rise in group revenue to CHF 3.1 billion, driven by strong demand in Asia and Europe. North America contributed 22% of total revenue in the period, up from 20% a year earlier.
Shares in Schindler Holding AG are listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange under the ticker SCHP.
