Russian equities closed higher on Tuesday, with the MOEX Russia Index gaining 2.70% as gains in oil and gas, energy and mining sectors offset declines in steel and utilities. The advance-decline ratio stood at 177 advancing to 67 declining, with 11 stocks unchanged.
The MOEX Russia Index’s advance was supported by strength in key components, including TATNEFT, which rose 3.31% to 528.20, and PIK SHb, which climbed 3.30% to 584.70. Unipro led percentage gains among top performers, rising 5.62% to 0.98. Among laggards, Novolipetsk Steel fell 2.36% to 66.20, followed by Polyus, which declined 1.54% to 1,109.40.
The Russian Volatility Index (RVI) eased 2.41% to 46.08, indicating reduced market uncertainty. Meanwhile, the USD/RUB and EUR/RUB exchange rates held steady at 83.70 and 97.72, respectively, while the US Dollar Index futures rose 0.09% to 98.84.
Commodity markets showed mixed signals, with gold futures for December delivery up 0.39% at $4,715.90 per troy ounce. Brent crude futures for November delivery edged higher by 0.37% to $86.07 per barrel, while October-delivery oil futures fell 4.59% to $81.11 per barrel.
