Portugal’s benchmark PSI index advanced 0.40% on Monday, closing at a three-month high as broad-based gains offset declines in energy and industrial shares.
The index’s advance was driven by gains in consumer services, finance and basic materials, with 15 stocks rising against nine decliners and six unchanged. Jeronimo Martins led advancers, climbing 3.08% to 18.08 euros, while Ibersol Reg and CTT Correios de Portugal added 1.10% and 1.01%, respectively.
Energy and industrial stocks weighed on the session. Galp Energia fell 2.28% to 21.43 euros, while Mota Engil and Redes Energeticas Nacionais declined 0.31% and 0.28%, respectively. The Lisbon exchange’s mixed performance reflected sector-specific dynamics amid stable broader market conditions.
Commodity futures moved in divergent directions. Brent crude for November delivery slipped 2.21% to $90.62 per barrel, while October-delivery oil fell 2.53% to $84.86. Gold futures for December delivery rose 0.69% to $4,712.91 per troy ounce, extending gains in the precious metal.
Currency markets showed limited movement. The EUR/USD pair was little changed at 1.17, while the EUR/GBP held steady at 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Futures Index declined 0.18% to 98.91.
