A Reuters/Ipsos poll of 1,166 U.S. adults conducted between August 14-17 found that 63% of respondents believe it was inappropriate for President Donald Trump and his family to earn income from cryptocurrency investments while in office. The results reveal a pronounced partisan split, with 69% of Republicans supporting the investments compared to 92% of Democrats who opposed them.
The survey follows a June disclosure from the U.S. Office of Government Ethics indicating Trump earned $1.4 billion in 2025 from crypto-related investments, including ventures through his family’s World Liberty Financial company and the Official Trump (TRUMP) memecoin. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly has maintained that no conflicts of interest exist in these investments.
Criticism from lawmakers has intensified, with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer introducing legislation in July to establish a federal agency focused on corruption, specifically citing Trump’s crypto ventures. The president, speaking at a White House press conference alongside industry executives, reiterated support for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a bill aimed at clarifying regulatory oversight of digital assets. The legislation is scheduled for a cloture vote on September 15.
The Trump family’s crypto company recently secured approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for a trust charter, adding to regulatory scrutiny of their financial activities.
