Three Norwegian energy companies have formed a partnership to jointly explore frontier areas on the country’s continental shelf. Equinor, Aker BP and Vaar Energi said the collaboration will focus on high-impact exploration to increase the likelihood of major discoveries.
The agreement covers 20 to 25 exploration opportunities, with plans to drill approximately five high-impact wells each year over the next four to five years. The companies will share risk, expertise, data, technology and exploration capacity to improve efficiency and outcomes in frontier regions.
The partnership targets underexplored areas of Norway’s continental shelf, where geological potential remains significant but drilling costs and technical challenges are higher. By pooling resources, the firms aim to mitigate individual risks while accelerating the pace of exploration in these frontier basins.
