The robotics unit of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has raised over $900 million in its first funding round, valuing the division at more than $6.3 billion, the company said on Monday.
The round, led by IDG Capital with participation from strategic investors Tencent and Alibaba, marks a record valuation for a single private financing deal in China’s physical artificial intelligence sector. Funds will be directed toward hardware and software development, AI model training, and the construction of production facilities for scaled manufacturing.
Xpeng also outlined plans for global expansion as part of the capital infusion. The company aims to begin serial production of its humanoid robot, the Xpeng IRON, by the end of this year, initially deploying units within its own retail stores and manufacturing sites. Commercial sales and deliveries in China and overseas markets are slated for 2027.
The robotics division operates independently of Xpeng’s core automotive business, reflecting the automaker’s broader push into AI-driven technologies beyond electric vehicles.
