Nordson Corporation (NASDAQ: NDSN) shares gained 5.7% in premarket trading on Tuesday after the precision technology company reported third-quarter earnings and revenue that surpassed analyst expectations and raised its full-year outlook.
For the quarter ended July 31, Nordson posted adjusted earnings per share of $3.25, exceeding the $3.09 consensus estimate by $0.16. Revenue totaled $817.66 million, a 10% increase from $742 million in the same period a year earlier and above the $779.49 million forecast.
Organic sales growth accelerated to approximately 12%, with all three segments reporting record quarterly sales. The company’s backlog expanded by 35% year-over-year, reflecting sustained demand. EBITDA reached a record $262 million, representing 32% of sales and a 10% increase from the prior year.
Nordson raised its full-year guidance, projecting revenue of $3.035 billion to $3.075 billion, with a midpoint of $3.055 billion surpassing the $2.983 billion consensus. Adjusted earnings guidance was lifted to a range of $11.80 to $12.00 per share, up from the $11.59 estimate, with the midpoint of $11.90 marking a 2.7% increase over analyst projections.
President and CEO Sundaram Nagarajan attributed the performance to continued execution of the Ascend Strategy, a diversified portfolio, and operational excellence. “The strong momentum of the first half continued through the third quarter, delivering results above the high-end of our most recent earnings guidance,” he said. “Record sales in all three segments and best-in-class margin performance underscore the strength of our precision technology platform.”
