John B. Sanfilippo & Son Inc. reported mixed fourth-quarter results on Wednesday, with revenue growth offset by higher costs and a miss on adjusted earnings per share.
The company, which operates under the Fisher Nut and Sunnyland brands, posted adjusted EPS of $0.71 for the quarter ended June 25, below the $1.30 consensus estimate. Revenue increased 4.2% year-over-year to $280.4 million, exceeding the $271.8 million estimate and up from $269.1 million a year earlier.
Sales volume rose 1.4% to 87.4 million pounds, marking the first quarterly increase after five consecutive quarters of decline. Gross profit fell 9.5% to $44.1 million, reflecting broader cost pressures.
Chief Executive Jeffrey T. Sanfilippo cited "multiple challenges" including a $2.7 million recall-related charge tied to contaminated dry milk powder from a third-party supplier. Additional pressures included higher customer claims, elevated snack bar ingredient costs, manufacturing inefficiencies, and increased freight expenses. The company also faced higher-than-anticipated input and transportation costs, as well as inefficiencies linked to onboarding a large contract manufacturing customer.
For the full fiscal year 2026, net sales reached a record $1.18 billion, up 6.2% year-over-year. Diluted EPS rose 4.6% to $5.26, while the annual dividend increased 5.6% to $0.95 per share. A special dividend of $1.05 per share was also declared.
Shares of JBSS closed 3.32% lower on Wednesday, with little movement in after-hours trading following the announcement.
