The Monterey Peninsula College Foundation has received a $25,000 Workforce Readiness grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation to fund its Honor Grant program.
The funds will support student education and career development initiatives, with a focus on nursing, firefighting and emergency medical services pathways, according to the foundation. The grant aligns with the Honor Grant program’s broader mission of expanding learning opportunities for students pursuing these professions.
The American Water Charitable Foundation administers the Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, which prioritizes career readiness, financial and business literacy, youth development and life skills training. The foundation is a corporate philanthropic arm of American Water (NYSE: AWK), a regulated water and wastewater utility serving approximately 14 million people across 14 states and 19 military installations.
California American Water, a subsidiary of American Water operating in Pacific Grove, serves around 720,000 customers with a workforce of about 300 employees. The $25,000 grant represents one of multiple community investments made by the foundation since its establishment in 2012, which have totaled over $25 million in grants and matching gifts.
Beccie Michael, Executive Director of the Monterey Peninsula College Foundation, said the grant underscores a commitment to preparing the next generation of healthcare and emergency services professionals.
Josh Stratton of California American Water also highlighted the initiative’s role in strengthening local workforce pipelines.
