The Monterey Peninsula College Foundation has received a $25,000 grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation to support its Honor Grant program, which targets nursing, firefighting and emergency medical services training.
The funding will provide students with practical learning opportunities, mentorship and pathways into healthcare and emergency response careers. The grant is part of the broader Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, which has distributed over $25 million in grants and matching funds since 2012.
American Water’s charitable arm operates the Workforce Readiness program through which the grant was awarded. The parent company, listed on the New York Stock Exchange as AWK, funds the foundation via shareholder contributions. Its subsidiary, California American Water, serves approximately 720,000 customers in California and employs around 300 staff.
Beccie Michael, Executive Director of the Monterey Peninsula College Foundation, said the grant reflects a commitment to preparing the next generation of nurses, firefighters and paramedics. Josh Stratton, associated with California American Water, highlighted the program’s focus on equipping students with career-ready skills through hands-on experience and mentorship.
American Water serves about 14 million people across 14 states and 19 military installations, with California American Water representing one of its largest regulated utilities by customer base.
