Mexico’s benchmark S&P/BMV IPC closed 0.10% higher on Wednesday, as gains in consumer and industrial sectors countered losses in financials and aviation names.
Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by 115 to 129, with 18 stocks unchanged at the close of trade. The index’s modest rise followed a session marked by mixed sector performance and a firmer peso.
Consumer staples and industrial shares led the advance. Grupo Financiero Inbursa led gainers with a 2.99% rise to 44.07, while Coca-Cola Femsa added 2.69% to 191.68. Industrias Peñoles climbed 2.35% to 860.26. Financials lagged, with Grupo Financiero Banorte down 1.64% to 184.48.
Aviation stocks weighed on the index. Controladora Vuela, operator of low-cost carrier Volaris, fell 3.72% to 12.16, extending declines toward a 52-week low. Genomma Lab also slipped 1.18% to 13.43.
The Mexican peso strengthened 0.09% against the dollar to 16.95, while the euro rose 0.07% to 19.79. The U.S. Dollar Index futures fell 0.87% to 98.69.
Commodities advanced alongside equities. December gold futures rose 3.62% to $4,580.75 per troy ounce, while October West Texas Intermediate crude gained 0.40% to $84.40 per barrel. October Brent crude edged up 0.03% to $91.64 per barrel.
