BKW AG, the Bern-based energy group, saw its shares decline 1.1% to CHF 130 on Wednesday after the company reported weaker-than-expected interim results for the first half of 2026. The stock, which had been trading near its 52-week low of CHF 125.5, extended losses following the release of financial figures that fell short of market expectations.
Total operating income for the period fell 3.1% year-over-year to CHF 2.18 billion, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) contracted 10.1% to CHF 387.9 million. Operating profit (EBIT) declined 15.1% to CHF 263.7 million. Net profit, however, rose 7.0% to CHF 217.6 million, a gain attributed largely to strong contributions from the Mühleberg Nuclear Power Plant rather than broader operational improvements.
Management reiterated that full-year 2026 guidance remains at the lower end of the previously disclosed range, reflecting ongoing challenges in the group’s core markets. The company had previously cut guidance and recorded a CHF 110 million write-down on a German coal plant asset earlier in the year, contributing to investor caution.
The broader market offered no support, with U.S. equity benchmarks essentially flat on the day. The Swiss energy sector, in particular, saw no macro tailwind from central bank policy shifts or significant economic data releases, leaving BKW shares without external momentum to counterbalance the weak financial performance.
