Lonza is expanding its US manufacturing presence with a new spray-drying facility in Bend, Oregon, expected to be completed by 2029.
The project will support commercial production of spray-dried active-pharmaceutical-ingredient dispersions. Lonza said the technology enhances the solubility and bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs, and demand for such processes is rising alongside the increasing complexity of modern drug development, according to a company statement on Thursday.
Lonza did not disclose the investment amount, calling it "significant." The firm said the project will initially create more than 80 new jobs.
CEO Wolfgang Wienand highlighted the strategic rationale, noting the US remains a leading location for pharmaceutical innovation and a key market for Lonza. The existing Bend site already holds expertise in particle technology and spray drying, providing a foundation for the expansion.
Lonza said the investment also strengthens proximity to important customers and reinforces the resilience of regional supply chains.
