Raiffeisen has exited its strategic position in Swiss derivative specialist Leonteq, reducing its stake to 7% from a previously undisclosed level. A group led by financier Rainer-Marc Frey has acquired a 30% stake in the company, according to a filing on Monday.
The transaction follows Raiffeisen’s decision to divest its holdings, aligning with a broader shift in its investment strategy. The Frey-led consortium now holds a significant minority stake, positioning it as a key shareholder in Leonteq. The move comes amid ongoing restructuring efforts at Raiffeisen, which has been reducing exposure to non-core assets.
Leonteq confirmed the shareholder change in a statement, noting that an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) will be held on September 12 to seek shareholder approval for the transaction. The EGM will also address potential adjustments to the company’s capital structure and governance framework in light of the new ownership dynamics.
Analysts suggest the deal could introduce strategic opportunities for Leonteq, particularly in expanding its product offerings or entering new markets. However, the transition period may introduce short-term volatility as the company integrates the new shareholder base. Leonteq’s management has emphasized continuity in its operational strategy while acknowledging the need to evaluate long-term implications of the ownership change.
The Frey-led group’s acquisition underscores growing interest in Switzerland’s fintech and derivative sectors, where consolidation and strategic realignments remain common amid evolving regulatory and market conditions.
