Jefferies initiated coverage of L3Harris Technologies on Tuesday with a hold recommendation and a $315 price target, reflecting caution amid operational and strategic uncertainties despite the defense contractor’s recent financial performance.
The brokerage’s valuation implies a 19.8% premium to L3Harris’s closing price of $262.17 on Monday, which remains near its 52-week low of $260.95. L3Harris shares have declined 25.6% over the past six months, underperforming broader defense sector trends.
Analysts highlighted several key risks, including an unresolved leadership transition and the delayed initial public offering of the company’s Missile Solutions division. The planned spin-off, valued at $3 billion, still requires $2 billion in internal funding, according to Jefferies’ estimates. Management has set a free cash flow target of $3.5 billion by 2028, with Jefferies projecting $3.35 billion, contingent on favorable defense procurement advances.
L3Harris reported adjusted earnings per share of $3.13 for Q2 2026, exceeding Wall Street expectations of $2.80, while revenue reached $5.9 billion compared to the $5.81 billion forecast. Year-over-year sales growth stood at 8%, and free cash flow rose 37%.
The House of Representatives’ passage of the National Defense Authorization Acts further underscores demand for short-range missiles with multiple sourcing options, potentially benefiting L3Harris. However, Jefferies’ hold rating suggests investors should await clarity on leadership and the Missile Solutions IPO before reassessing the stock’s valuation.
