Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 index closed 0.61% higher on Wednesday, extending gains as real estate, banking and textile stocks led advances. Advancing issues outnumbered falling ones by 2,129 to 1,357, with 270 unchanged.
The implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options rose 8.11% to 30.41, reflecting a modest pickup in market uncertainty alongside the broader advance.
Among the top gainers, Mitsubishi Materials Corp. led with a 5.95% rise to 5,963 yen, while Tokyo Electric Power Co. added 3.96% to 538.30 yen. Advantest Corp. climbed 3.63% to 35,700 yen in late trade.
On the downside, SUMCO Corp. fell 3.90% to 3,405 yen, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. declined 3.36% to 3,306 yen and Nippon Yusen K.K. shed 2.48% to 6,964 yen.
Commodities showed mixed performance, with October crude oil futures down 2.12% at $80.61 per barrel and November Brent crude falling 1.71% to $85.78 per barrel. December gold futures were little changed, down 0.04% at $4,692.84 per troy ounce.
The yen weakened modestly against the dollar, with USD/JPY down 0.08% at 159.06, while EUR/JPY fell 0.11% to 185.58. US Dollar Index futures rose 0.08% to 98.92.
