The German blue-chip index held steady near its record level on Monday, consolidating gains after a four-week advance.
The DAX slipped 0.1% to 26,423 points by the close, paring earlier gains but remaining within 151 points of its intraday record of 26,574 points set last Wednesday. The index has posted weekly gains for four consecutive sessions, extending a rally that has followed a broader rebound in European equities.
Traders cited light profit-taking as the primary driver of the modest decline, though sentiment remained supported by expectations of continued monetary policy easing from the European Central Bank. Corporate earnings and macroeconomic data releases this week are expected to provide further direction, with investors monitoring inflation trends and central bank signals for cues on future policy adjustments.
The DAX’s resilience reflects broader strength in the euro zone’s largest economy, where improving business confidence and stable industrial activity have underpinned investor optimism. Analysts note that the index’s proximity to record territory suggests limited downside risk, though any unexpected shift in macroeconomic conditions could trigger increased volatility.
For the week, the DAX is on track to post its fourth consecutive gain, a streak that has lifted the index nearly 3% from its levels at the start of the month.
