Freedom Broker reduced its price target for Western Copper and Gold (NYSE: WRN) to $5.25 from $5.60, citing valuation concerns while maintaining a 'buy' recommendation.
The brokerage, led by analyst Vitaly Kononov, also noted the company’s strong financial position, with a current ratio of 31.48 and minimal debt relative to cash holdings. Western Copper and Gold’s shares have gained 84.5% over the past year, though InvestingPro analysis indicates the stock remains overvalued compared to its fair value estimate.
Regulatory progress on the Casino project remains a key catalyst. Western Copper and Gold recently submitted additional information to the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB), following a request for sufficiency. The regulator is now expected to determine whether the submission is sufficient, potentially triggering a formal Panel review. Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, a strategic partner, extended its collaboration agreement with Western Copper and Gold until November 30, 2028, reinforcing long-term support for the project.
H.C. Wainwright, another firm covering the stock, maintained its price target at $5.75 and reiterated its 'buy' rating. The divergent targets underscore differing views on valuation, though both firms emphasize the project’s strategic importance and growing government-backed infrastructure support in the region.
The Casino project’s environmental evaluation remains the primary near-term value driver, with analysts closely monitoring YESAB’s next steps and potential regulatory milestones.
