France’s CAC 40 index fell 0.37% to close lower on Monday as declines in oil and gas, healthcare and industrial shares offset gains in consumer staples and luxury names.
Declining issues outnumbered advancers by 271 to 190 on the Paris bourse, with 83 stocks unchanged. The SBF 120 index, which covers a broader range of French equities, also slipped 0.37%. The CAC 40 VIX, a measure of expected volatility derived from options pricing, held at 18.96, matching a 52-week high.
Among the index’s top gainers, Publicis Groupe rose 1.71% to 104.10, L’Oréal added 1.53% to 392.50 and LVMH gained 1.51% to 459.35. On the downside, Stellantis dropped 4.71% to 4.43, STMicroelectronics fell 2.00% to 42.22 and TotalEnergies declined 1.89% to 75.98.
In broader SBF 120 performance, Ipsos led with a 2.77% gain to 40.06, followed by Worldline at 2.69% to 12.61 and Edenred at 2.39% to 29.94. The steepest losses included Stellantis at 4.71%, Euroapi at 3.78% and X Fab Silicon Foundries at 3.29%.
Commodities showed mixed signals. Gold futures for December delivery rose 0.74% to $4,715.19 per troy ounce, while crude oil for October delivery fell 2.56% to $84.83 per barrel. Brent crude for November delivery declined 2.21% to $90.62 per barrel.
The euro held steady against major peers, with EUR/USD little changed at 1.17 and EUR/GBP flat at 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Index futures rose 0.17% to 98.90.
