FibroBiologics Inc. (NASDAQ: FBLG) has appointed Leigh Steinberg, a veteran sports agent with over five decades of experience, to its board of directors. Steinberg, CEO of Steinberg Sports & Entertainment, is known for negotiating more than $4 billion in athlete contracts and representing over 300 professionals, including a record eight No. 1 overall NFL Draft picks and more than 60 first-round selections.
The appointment follows FibroBiologics’ focus on developing therapeutics for chronic diseases using fibroblasts and fibroblast-derived materials. Pete O’Heeron, founder and CEO of FibroBiologics, highlighted Steinberg’s career-long ability to anticipate market shifts and his extensive network across sports, medicine, business, and media. Steinberg also brings advocacy experience in brain health, having organized summits since 1994 that brought neurologists and athletes together to address traumatic brain injury risks.
Steinberg, a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with degrees in political science and law, has authored two books: Winning with Integrity and The Agent: My 40-Year Career of Making Deals and Changing the Game. His career inspired the film Jerry Maguire. Steinberg emphasized FibroBiologics’ approach to chronic disease treatment, stating the company is targeting disease at its roots with fibroblast cell therapy and possesses a substantial patent portfolio of over 270 issued and pending patents.
FibroBiologics’ shares, listed on the NASDAQ, closed at $1.44 on August 21, up 11.63% from the prior session.
