Enphase Energy is expanding its outreach in the Netherlands ahead of the scheduled termination of the country’s net metering policy on January 1, 2027. The California-based solar technology company plans to host more than 300 in-person events and online webinars in 2026, with over 100 already completed, to inform Dutch homeowners about alternatives to exporting surplus solar energy to the grid.
The Dutch government’s decision to end net metering will reduce compensation for exported solar power, removing a key financial incentive for households with solar-only systems. Enphase estimates that nearly half a million Dutch homeowners have installed its microinverter-based solar systems, and the company is positioning its IQ Battery storage solutions as a way to mitigate the impact of the policy change.
To support adoption, Enphase is onboarding local installers into its lead-referral program and has partnered with Dutch fintech platform Prets.io to connect customers with financing options. The company also facilitates access to Warmtefonds, a government-backed loan program for sustainable energy investments. According to Leo van der Grinten, an Enphase installer, the conversion rate from event attendees to pre-orders is approximately 50%.
Enphase has shipped roughly 89.4 million microinverters globally and operates in more than 165 countries. The company’s push in the Netherlands reflects broader industry efforts to adapt to shifting solar incentive structures across Europe.
