Cloudflare Inc. on Monday introduced Adaptive Intelligence, an automated bot-detection engine integrated into its Bot Management product line, designed to counter increasingly sophisticated automated cyberattacks.
The new engine continuously retrains its machine-learning model using live traffic data, eliminating reliance on scheduled rule updates. It combines browser-level session behavior signals from Cloudflare Precursor with network telemetry to generate and rotate security rules in real time. Each update is tested against live traffic before deployment, allowing the system to automatically implement changes without manual intervention.
The engine processes more than one trillion web visits daily across Cloudflare’s global network, enabling it to detect slow-moving threats such as credential stuffing campaigns and data scraping operations. These attacks have grown more accessible due to low-cost online services and AI tools that allow threat actors to rent compromised device networks and mimic human behavior at scale.
Adaptive Intelligence analyzes behavioral patterns across multiple time intervals to identify evolving attack vectors. Dane Knecht, chief technology officer at Cloudflare, stated that traditional defenses present static targets that threat actors can systematically bypass. "The Adaptive Intelligence engine creates a moving target," Knecht said.
Cloudflare did not disclose pricing details or specific availability dates for the new engine.
