Brazil's state-owned bank Caixa reported on Wednesday a 5.9% increase in recurring net income for the second quarter of 2026, totaling R$3.9 billion compared with the same period a year earlier.
The bank's credit portfolio expanded by 11.9% year-over-year to R$1.45 trillion, while its real estate portfolio grew 15.0% to R$1.01 trillion. Commercial, infrastructure, and agribusiness portfolios stood at R$270.4 billion, R$110.5 billion, and R$62.3 billion, respectively.
Credit quality showed signs of deterioration, with the default rate for loans over 90 days increasing by 0.98 percentage points to 3.64%. The provision for doubtful debts rose 97.6% annually to R$7 billion, reflecting higher risk exposure.
Caixa's Basel Index declined to 15.5% from 16.0% in the second quarter of 2025, though it remained above regulatory requirements. The bank attributed its performance to credit expansion, fundraising, and growth in service provision revenues.
