Brazil’s benchmark Bovespa index closed 1.85% higher on Friday, extending gains into the final hour of trade as consumption, financial and real estate shares led advances. The advance-decline ratio stood at 607 rising to 350 falling, with 45 issues unchanged on the B3 exchange.
The CBOE Brazil ETF Volatility Index, which tracks implied volatility for Bovespa options, rose 3.23% to 28.16, while the U.S. Dollar Index futures were down 0.04% at 98.77. The Brazilian real strengthened 1.08% against the dollar to 5.14, and the euro fell 1.02% to 6.01.
Among the top performers, Grupo Vamos SA led with a 10.48% gain to 2.74, followed by Cosan SA Industria e Comercio at 8.01% to 3.64, and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais SA USIMINAS Pref at 7.91% to 6.53. Embraer SA was the largest decliner, down 1.01% to 97.27, while Metalurgica Gerdau SA and Braskem SA fell 0.81% and 0.59%, respectively.
Commodities showed mixed performance, with gold futures for December delivery up 2.12% to $4,668.21 per troy ounce and crude oil for October delivery up 0.01% to $86.84 per barrel. U.S. coffee futures for December delivery declined 1.34% to $324.90.
