Brazil’s Bovespa index closed 1.55% higher on Tuesday, lifted by gains in real estate, consumer and financial shares.
Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by 620 to 339, with 32 stocks unchanged. The CBOE Brazil ETF Volatility Index, which tracks implied volatility for Bovespa options, rose 2.65% to 31.82, a one-month high.
The U.S. Dollar Index futures were down 0.12% at 98.81, while the USD/BRL exchange rate eased 0.11% to 5.15. The EUR/BRL rate held steady at 6.01.
Among the top performers, Magazine Luiza SA surged 9.13% to close at 4.55, while Sendas Distribuidora SA added 7.82% to 8.97. Cury Construtora e Incorporadora S climbed 7.49% to 32.55 in late trade.
Braskem SA led decliners, falling 13.11% to 4.10, a five-year low. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais SA USIMINAS Pref dropped 2.11% to 7.00, and Petroleo Brasileiro SA fell 2.05% to 45.96.
In commodities, December gold futures rose 0.47% to $4,719.74 per troy ounce. October crude oil futures fell 5.09% to $80.68 per barrel. December U.S. coffee futures declined 1.99% to $334.85.
