Brazil’s formal labor market added 58,568 net jobs in July, missing economist forecasts for 112,000 positions, according to data released by the Labor Ministry on Friday.
The Labor Ministry reported 2.26 million job openings opened during the month, while 2.20 million positions were closed. The net figure represented the slowest pace of job creation for any month in 2026 and the weakest July performance since the government’s data series began in 2020.
Year-to-date, Brazil created 972,203 net formal jobs from January through July, a decline of roughly 21% compared with the same period last year. The July reading underscores a broader softening in the labor market amid elevated economic uncertainty.
