Boston Scientific (NYSE: BSX) said a cybersecurity incident detected on Tuesday has disrupted parts of its global operations, including systems used to process and ship customer orders.
The company activated its incident-response procedures immediately after detecting the breach and is working with third-party cybersecurity specialists to investigate and contain the threat. Boston Scientific noted that the attack is expected to continue affecting parts of the business while recovery efforts progress.
Shares of Boston Scientific fell about 5% in premarket trading following the disclosure, which came a day after the company first identified the incident. As of the report, Boston Scientific had not yet determined whether the breach would have a material impact on its operations or financial results.
The incident adds to a broader wave of cyberattacks targeting the healthcare sector, affecting medical device manufacturers, a health insurer, a pharmaceutical company, and a drug-delivery equipment supplier. Boston Scientific did not disclose further details about the nature or scope of the attack, including whether any customer data was compromised.
The company said it is prioritizing the restoration of critical systems and is coordinating with relevant authorities as the investigation continues.
