Barry Callebaut has entered its first partnership to reduce climate emissions in the dairy supply chain, teaming up with Arla Foods for a three-year initiative focused on decarbonizing milk sourcing.
The collaboration will see Arla deliver annual primary data on the CO₂ footprint of milk volumes supplied at the farm level. This effort aligns with Barry Callebaut’s broader Net Zero strategy, which targets emissions reductions across its operations and supply chains, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
The initiative underscores the growing emphasis on sustainability within the food industry, particularly in sectors reliant on dairy inputs. Barry Callebaut, a major producer of chocolate and cocoa products, has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, with interim targets set for 2030.
Arla Foods, a leading dairy cooperative, will provide granular emissions data to help Barry Callebaut measure and mitigate the environmental impact of its milk procurement. The partnership is designed to support both companies’ sustainability goals while fostering transparency in the dairy supply chain.
